Kejun Liu:
A Journey from Changsha to the World Stage
By Guillaume Jean Lefebvre
Kejun Liu, a name that echoes with the rich heritage of China, was born and raised in the bustling city of Changsha. Growing up in a family deeply entrenched in the global fashion industry, Kejun’s early years were filled with the vibrant colors and dynamic energy of fashion, which significantly influenced his worldview and aspirations.
From a young age, Kejun was surrounded by the creative flair and entrepreneurial spirit of his family members, who played a pivotal role in shaping his passions. This early exposure to the global fashion scene ignited a love for creativity and business within him, driving him to explore various interests and pursuits. Kejun’s curiosity was boundless, as he developed a wide array of passions, ranging from fashion and business to more adventurous endeavors like skydiving and piloting.
At just 17 years old, Kejun embarked on his first entrepreneurial venture, founding a company with his partner that catered to global corporations. This early foray into the business world was encouraged by a key piece of advice from his uncle: "Start a business and don’t be afraid of failure." This philosophy became a guiding principle for Kejun, who has since approached every opportunity with a fearless and adventurous spirit.
Academically, Kejun is on the verge of achieving a significant milestone, as he is set to receive his master’s degree next year. His educational journey, coupled with his diverse experiences, has equipped him with a unique perspective on life and work. However, for Kejun, work is not just about professional achievements. He views his projects, particularly in photography and acting, as extensions of his personal passions. Many of the photographers and directors he collaborates with are close friends, making these experiences feel less like work and more like creative expressions shared among peers.
Kejun’s professional journey is marked by a series of accomplishments across different fields. Whether it’s obtaining his skydiving license or becoming a licensed pilot, he is constantly pushing himself to new limits. Yet, when asked about his proudest achievement, Kejun humbly admits that he hasn’t reached "the most proud" moment yet, as he continues to strive for greater heights.
Balancing his professional and personal life has always been a priority for Kejun, and he credits his success to effective time management and a steadfast commitment to only engaging in activities he genuinely enjoys. Looking ahead, Kejun has set his sights on an ambitious goal: to establish a business in Los Angeles focused on sustainable aviation materials. This new venture aligns with his love for innovation and his desire to make a positive impact on the world.
As for how he wishes to be perceived by others, Kejun’s outlook is refreshingly indifferent. "I don’t care anymore," he says, embracing the diverse opinions and perceptions people may have of him. For Kejun, life is about embracing challenges, pursuing passions, and continuously evolving—without being constrained by the expectations of others.
Kejun Liu’s story is one of fearless exploration, relentless pursuit of passions, and an unwavering commitment to living life on his own terms. As he prepares to embark on his next big adventure, the world eagerly watches to see what this dynamic and multifaceted individual will achieve next.
BIOGRAPHY
1. Growing up in a family involved in the global fashion industry, how did this influence your perspective on business and creativity?
My family members share their opinions with me very frequently, and they analyze every detail about fashion. The most important thing I have learned from them is to analyze current trends (not only in fashion but also in every industry).
2. At just 17, you co-founded a company with your partner. What were the main challenges you faced as a young entrepreneur, and how did you overcome them?
I was so naive that I didn’t know how terrible humanity could be. One of my co-founders betrayed our company, took the investment, and disappeared! We had to work with law enforcement and the government to deal with it.
3. Your uncle advised you not to fear failure in business. Can you share an experience where you applied this advice, and what you learned from it?
I wasn’t sure if we should do a program related to underage sexual education in remote areas. There were too many issues and concerns, but my uncle’s support convinced me to go ahead with the plan, and here we go! We did really well in that village! Failures are not scary at all; they will be forgotten eventually.
4. You mentioned that you don’t really see what you do as work but as a passion. How does this mindset influence your approach to professional projects, particularly in photography and acting?
I do everything with my heart and full devotion. I don’t collect money or profit from my acting or photography, which has helped many artists. Of course, most of those artists are my friends. For example, I helped one of them film an action movie about skydiving. I actually got my skydiving A license for his movie so he didn’t need to hire any stunt double. As a result, I fell in love with skydiving, just like many Hollywood actors and producers (yes, sometimes we jump together for fun!).

Obtaining skydiving and pilot licenses reflects your love for adventure and pushing boundaries. How have these experiences shaped the way you manage your professional and personal responsibilities?
I know I’m responsible for myself and the people down there, and I do everything with caution. Besides, they’re good sports for relaxation and creativity. The sky is beautiful, and it inspires me a lot.
You’re currently completing your master’s degree. How has your academic journey complemented or influenced your professional experience so far?
I’m a good student and I love studying, writing papers, doing presentations, etc. Sometimes studying is more like entertainment for me when I’m tired of doing something else.
You expressed interest in developing sustainable aviation materials in Los Angeles. What inspired you to pursue this specific field, and what are your long-term goals in this area?
The blue sky needs us to protect it. I’m afraid I can’t say much about it, as I’m still developing ideas. Why LA? Because this is the city I love.
Interview
Your first job involved working for the company you founded. How did this experience shape your perspective on innovation and leadership in the business world?
Sometimes I judge people and other enterprises, but now I don’t do that anymore. There are many others who are excellent, and I think I should learn from them.
As an entrepreneur with diverse interests, how do you choose the projects you want to focus on, and what common traits do you look for in these projects?
My CEO chooses the projects and I fully trust her judgment. She always tells me the pros and cons, then she does the presentation. I think as long as a project can bring benefits to us while doing good for society, it’s something I will consider approving.
You mentioned that you haven’t yet reached “the most proud” moment of your life. What achievements or milestones do you hope to reach in the future that will give you that ultimate sense of pride?
I wish I could help as many people as I can.
Quality, not quantity
We have made quality our habit. It’s not something that we just strive for – we live by this principle every day.
