INTERVIEW
1. Can you introduce yourself for those who are just discovering you?
My name is Graham Parkhurst, and I am a Canadian-born actor and singer with over a decade of experience on stage and screen.
2. Can you share any behind-the-scenes anecdotes from your experience working on the upcoming Netflix series "Glamorous"?
Don’t forget to have fun and enjoy the moment.
Alexander McQueen Stilettos can be dangerous weapons.
When you’re shooting a shirtless scene, avoid watching other cast members enjoying craft services. It’ll save you a lot of heartache.
3. How did you prepare for your role as Parker in "Glamorous," and what aspects of the character resonated with you?
The very first thing I realized when I read the script was that I was going to be shirtless a lot! To prepare for that, I immediately started working out and dieting pretty intensely as there were only a few weeks between booking the role and the start of filming. As someone who has a bit of a thicker build and a love for sweets, cutting sugars was definitely the hardest part for me.
I’ve also known a lot of “Parkers” in my life, so it was easy to draw inspiration from past experiences to create my character. A few of the situations Parker finds himself in are comically identical to situations I have experienced. What resonated with me the most about Parker was that he is a queer, confident man who goes after what he wants. Although I wouldn't exactly define myself in the same way, I enjoyed getting the chance to access some of those traits.
4. Could you tell us about your journey and experience in landing roles in popular TV shows like "Star Trek: Strange New Worlds," "The Umbrella Academy," and "Titans"?
I transitioned to the world of on-camera acting a bit later in my career, so it was quite a journey to get the local casting directors to trust me with auditions and bookings on these larger shows. However, once I had auditioned enough and proved I was capable, I started being pitched more for these popular projects. The audition process was similar to most that I do. I received the sides, the project breakdowns, and the character descriptions with a short window to film the scenes. After a couple of weeks, give or take, I would get the offer for the role! “Star Trek: Strange New Worlds,” “The Umbrella Academy” and “Titans,” were particularly special shows for me because they were hugely recognizable and helped establish my name in the industry.
5. As an actor, what draws you to projects that explore themes of identity and representation, like "Glamorous" and your role as a gay character?
I’ve always been drawn to projects that tell an important story and shed light on underrepresented communities. The opportunity to be a part of a show that not only amplifies queer voices, but celebrates them on a global platform, is something I never would have pictured for myself ten years ago. As a gay actor, you often have to pass as straight, whereas in Glamorous, I got to be authentically myself. Also, if you’ve ever gone to the set of a queer show, you know how much fun it is!
6. What can audiences expect from the character Parker in "Glamorous"? Can you share any exciting developments or storylines without giving away too much?
Audiences can expect a flirtatious, cheeky, grounded character that shows a lot of skin. Through a chance encounter, Parker finds himself whisked into a turbulent game of cat and mouse with the lead character, Marco. Unfortunately, I can’t say much more than that, so you’ll have to watch and find out for yourselves!

7. How does it feel to be part of a groundbreaking series that pushes boundaries and challenges traditional beauty standards, as depicted in "Glamorous?"
It feels GLAMOROUS! I hope that everyone can see themselves represented in this show, no matter how you identify or how you look. In my opinion, the best part of the series is its inclusivity.
8. With the premiere of "Glamorous" approaching, what are your future projects and aspirations as an actor? Are there any dream roles or collaborations you'd love to pursue?
I’m manifesting to one day star in my own series. If any producers are reading this, hit me up! I’d love to work on a show similar to “The Boys,” “Schitt’s Creek” or, as cliché as it sounds, “The White Lotus.” Something smart, funny, and maybe a bit heavy. I think dark comedy is where I feel I excel most as an actor. As a former theatre artist, I would also love to work on Broadway one day! I’d play a killer dentist in “Little Shop of Horrors.”
9. What messages would you like to convey the most through your art?
People are multi-faceted. Be open to being surprised by others and find joy in knowing that nothing in life is as serious as you think it is.
10. How would you like to be perceived by others based on your future filmography in several years?
I would like to be perceived as a quick-witted, versatile actor whose humanity and generosity extend past his work in the industry.
11. If you could give advice to your younger self, what would you tell yourself?
Everything in life happens when it’s supposed to; no sooner and no later. Always remember to find the fun. Spend more time with your family and stop eating so much sugar!
Quality, not quantity
We have made quality our habit. It’s not something that we just strive for – we live by this principle every day.
